When to go
June to October, dry season: animals gather at waterholes, migration in the northern Serengeti (Mara river crossings July–September). January–February for the calving season in the southern Serengeti. The long rains of April–May are best avoided.

Six per jeep is the magic number: everyone gets a window seat and the cost per head is the lowest possible. Book the safari months ahead for high season and choose tented camps outside the parks to save on entrance fees.

How long is safari plus Zanzibar?
Ten to twelve days: five or six on safari between Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro, then four or five by the sea. On Worldmates you can join only the safari part or only Zanzibar.
Do I need a visa for Tanzania?
Yes, most visitors get it on arrival for a fee or online before departure (e-visa). Check health requirements with your foreign office as well.
How much does a group safari cost?
Park fees and the jeep with driver-guide are the main items; the jeep is shared, the fees are not. Splitting vehicle and lodging brings the cost per head far below a safari for two.
