Group trips in Albania

The Ksamil riviera, Berat and the Albanian Alps: Europe's cheapest sea, a ferry ride from Puglia.

⏱ Typical length: 7–12 days💶 Budget: very low🎒 Backpacking🏖️ Relax🏔️ Adventure

Albania became Italians' summer destination for a simple reason: Caribbean-looking sea at prices from twenty years ago. But there is much more: Berat and Gjirokastër, Ottoman towns and UNESCO sites, colourful lively Tirana, and in the north the Albanian Alps with the Theth to Valbona trek.

As a group Albania is driven (a rental split five ways costs very little) and coastal apartments are rented for sums unthinkable elsewhere. With a week you do the sea and the southern towns; with two you add the mountains.

June–September for the sea, with July and August now busy in Ksamil and Saranda. May and October are perfect for towns and trekking; the Albanian Alps are walked from June to September.

Don't miss

💡 The group tip

Arrive by ferry from Bari or Brindisi with your own car, or fly to Tirana and rent: roads have improved but need time and a calm driver. On the riviera book early: from July the good places run out.

Frequently asked questions

How many days for Albania?

Seven days for the southern riviera with Berat and Gjirokastër; ten to twelve adding Tirana and the Albanian Alps. Sea and mountains are two stops you can join separately.

Do I need a passport for Albania?

Most European citizens enter visa-free for tourism with a passport or, for EU nationals, a valid national ID card. Check your foreign office.

Is Albania really cheap?

Yes, among the cheapest in Europe for food, lodging and transport, although the coast in August is catching up. As a group, with car and apartments shared, you spend very little.
