Group trips in Iceland

Waterfalls, glaciers and the northern lights along the Ring Road: Europe's most expensive country becomes affordable for five.

⏱ Typical length: 7–10 days💶 Budget: very high🏔️ Adventure

Iceland is driven along the Ring Road: the Golden Circle, the south coast with Skógafoss, Vík and the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, the eastern fjords, the north with Akureyri and the Mývatn geothermal area, the Snæfellsnes peninsula. In summer the sun never sets, in winter the aurora arrives.

The group is the answer to Iceland's problem, the price: a car or van split five ways, whole cottages instead of rooms, supermarket shopping and dinners cooked together. Those with only a long weekend join the Reykjavík and south-coast days.

June–August for the midnight sun, open highlands and the full Ring Road; September and February–March for the aurora with days still long enough to sightsee. In deep winter northern roads may close.

Don't miss

💡 The group tip

A six- or seven-seat van and cottages with a kitchen: the cheapest formula. Shop in Reykjavík before setting off (Bónus, Krónan) and book the lesser-known geothermal pools instead of the Blue Lagoon.

Frequently asked questions

How many days for the Ring Road?

Seven to ten days for the full loop; four or five cover the south (Golden Circle, south coast, Jökulsárlón). On Worldmates you can also join only the first days.

Do I need a passport for Iceland?

Iceland is in the Schengen area: EU citizens travel with a valid national ID card or passport. Check your foreign office anyway.

How much does Iceland cost as a group?

It stays expensive, but splitting car, cottages and home-cooked dinners brings the daily cost to normal European levels. The low-cost flight is often the cheapest item of the trip.
