Group trips in Morocco

Marrakech, the Merzouga dunes and the blue cities: the desert three hours' flight from Italy.

⏱ Typical length: 7–10 days💶 Budget: low🏛️ Culture🏔️ Adventure🎒 Backpacking

Morocco is the quintessential group trip of the Mediterranean area: medinas to wander together, a night in the desert around the fire, riads rented whole. From Marrakech you climb the Atlas, cross the gorges to Merzouga, then Fes and, if you like, Chefchaouen and the Essaouira coast.

The desert loop in a minivan with driver is designed for six or eight people: alone it costs a fortune, as a group it becomes one of the cheapest trips you can take. Those with a long weekend join only Marrakech.

March–May and September–November: dry heat by day and cool nights. In summer the interior tops 40 degrees (avoid the desert); in winter nights in Merzouga drop below zero but the sky is stunning.

Don't miss

💡 The group tip

Rent a whole riad in Marrakech: with eight people it costs like one room each and you get the courtyard and terrace to yourselves. Fix the desert minivan price before leaving, all inclusive, to avoid surprises.

Documents and entry

Visa exemption up to 90 days; passport valid for the whole stay.

Frequently asked questions

How many days for Morocco with the desert?

Seven days for Marrakech and the desert loop via Merzouga; ten to add Fes and Chefchaouen. Three days cover Marrakech alone nicely.

Do I need a visa for Morocco?

Most European citizens enter visa-free for tourism with a valid passport. Check the current rules with your foreign office.

Is Morocco suited to a mixed group?

Yes, it is a busy and hospitable destination. In the medinas it pays to move together and dress respectfully; the group makes everything more relaxed, especially for solo women travellers.
