Group trips in Kenya

Masai Mara, Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro and the Diani coast: the safari with the most variety per kilometre.

⏱ Typical length: 8–12 days💶 Budget: medium🏔️ Adventure🏖️ Relax

Kenya is the "classic" safari for travellers from Europe: Nairobi as the gateway, the Masai Mara with the migration, Amboseli with elephants and Kilimanjaro in the background, the Rift Valley lakes with flamingos. Then the Indian Ocean coast, from Diani to Watamu, to rest.

As in Tanzania the group halves the costs: minivans or Land Cruisers are priced per vehicle, lodges have triple and quadruple tents. The Nairobi–coast flight makes it easy to join only the beach part.

July–October for the migration in the Masai Mara and the dry season; January–February hot and dry, also great for the coast. The long rains of April–May make the tracks difficult.

Don't miss

💡 The group tip

Prefer the Land Cruiser to the minivan on the Mara tracks: six window seats and a pop-up roof. A dawn balloon flight over the Mara, booked for the whole group, is the memory of the trip.

Documents and entry

Passport required (valid for at least 6 months). eTA mandatory (paid online electronic travel authorization).

Malaria prophylaxis recommended for some areas; yellow fever vaccination if arriving from at-risk countries.

Frequently asked questions

How many days for a Kenya safari?

Seven days across the Masai Mara, the lakes and Amboseli; ten to twelve adding the coast. The stops are clearly separate, so on Worldmates you can join only the beach or only the safari.

Do I need a visa for Kenya?

An electronic travel authorisation (eTA) must be requested online before departure, for a fee. Check health requirements with your foreign office too.

Kenya or Tanzania for a first safari?

Kenya is generally cheaper with shorter distances; Tanzania has the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Many groups decide by season: the migration is in the Mara between July and October.
