Group trips in Peru

Machu Picchu, Cusco and Titicaca: the Andes are best walked as a group, one step at a time.

⏱ Typical length: 10–14 days💶 Budget: low🏔️ Adventure🏛️ Culture🎒 Backpacking

Peru is the trip of the Andes and the Incas: Cusco and the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu by train or after four days on the Inca Trail, Rainbow Mountain, Lake Titicaca with its floating islands. Lima adds one of the world's most awarded cuisines; Arequipa and the Colca canyon the condors.

As a group altitude is managed better (you wait for each other, keep an eye on each other) and the main costs are shared: guided trek with porters, private transfers in the Sacred Valley, guides at the sites. Modular participation is natural: those skipping the Inca Trail join the group at Machu Picchu by train.

May to September, dry season in the Andes: clear skies, cold nights. From November to March it rains in the mountains and the Inca Trail closes in February. Lima is overcast and damp in winter (June–September), sunny from December to April.

Don't miss

💡 The group tip

Book Machu Picchu tickets and the Inca Trail months ahead, for the whole group in the same time slot. Spend two days in Cusco to acclimatise before any trek: above 3,400 metres haste costs you.

Frequently asked questions

How many days for Peru?

Ten days for Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu; two weeks to add Titicaca or Arequipa. The Inca Trail takes four days within the trip.

Do I need a visa for Peru?

Most European citizens enter visa-free for tourism with a valid passport. Check the current rules with your foreign office.

Is altitude sickness a problem?

In Cusco (3,400 m) almost everyone feels something in the first days: gradual acclimatisation, water, no alcohol and coca tea help. As a group you support each other and match the pace to the slowest.
