Group trips in Costa Rica
Volcanoes, sloths and two oceans: the "pura vida" country is driven, and the car is shared.
Costa Rica packs into a small country the Arenal volcano with its hot springs, the Monteverde cloud forest with hanging bridges, Manuel Antonio park with sloths and monkeys on the beach, the Tortuguero canals and the Caribbean coast of Puerto Viejo. Nature everywhere, and well protected.
It is the classic group road trip: an SUV split five ways, lodges with several rooms, excursions (rafting, ziplines, night walks) booked together. Stops are two to four hours' drive apart, so those with fewer days join only the Pacific part.

When to go
December–April is the dry season on the Pacific side and inland. May to November brings rain (mostly afternoons), but nature is at its peak and prices drop; the Caribbean coast is at its best precisely in September and October.
Don't miss

- Arenal and La Fortuna — The volcano, the hot springs, the waterfall.
- Monteverde — The cloud forest, hanging bridges, the quetzal.
- Manuel Antonio — Sloths, monkeys and beaches in the park.
- Tortuguero — Canals by boat and the turtles (July–October).
- Puerto Viejo — The laid-back Caribbean and Cahuita.
💡 The group tip
Rent an SUV (secondary roads require it) with full insurance and split it four or five ways. Book national park tickets online in advance, for everyone: many have daily caps.
Documents and entry
Entry rules depend on your nationality and change over time: always check your foreign office before booking. The official source for Italian citizens is linked below.

How many days for Costa Rica?
Ten days for Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio; two weeks to add Tortuguero and the Caribbean. Short distances but slow roads: two or three nights per stop.
Do I need a visa for Costa Rica?
Most European citizens enter visa-free for tourism with a valid passport and an onward ticket. Check your foreign office.
Is Costa Rica expensive for Central America?
Yes, it is the priciest country in the region: parks, excursions and lodges have near North American prices. Sharing car and lodging as a group and travelling in the green season lower the bill a lot.
