Mexico is three countries in one: the huge lively capital, with Frida Kahlo and Teotihuacán; the colonial south of Oaxaca and Chiapas, with markets, mezcal and waterfalls; Yucatán with Chichén Itzá, cenotes, Tulum and the beaches of Holbox. The cuisine is UNESCO heritage and costs very little.
As a group Mexico is driven with a rental car in Yucatán (off-route cenotes are the best) and with ADO buses elsewhere. Stops are far apart: with a week you do only Yucatán, with two you add the capital or Oaxaca.

November to April, dry season everywhere. Late October–early November for Día de Muertos in Oaxaca and Mexico City. June to October brings rain and hurricane risk in Yucatán, but prices plummet.

💡 The group tip
In Yucatán rent a car in Cancún and sleep in Valladolid instead of Tulum: you are at the centre of the cenotes and Chichén Itzá for a third of the price. Get to the Maya sites at opening, before the coaches.

Passport required (valid for the whole stay). Visa exemption up to 180 days for tourism (FMM form on arrival).

How many days for Mexico?
Ten days for Yucatán with Mexico City; two weeks to add Oaxaca or Chiapas. Yucatán alone deserves a week, and it is the stop you can join on its own.
Do I need a visa for Mexico?
Most European citizens enter visa-free for tourism; the migration form (often digital) is completed on arrival. Check the current rules with your foreign office.
Is Mexico safe?
The tourist areas of Yucatán, Oaxaca, Chiapas and the capital are busy and suitable even for solo travellers; follow your foreign office's advice by region. The group, as always, makes everything more relaxed.
