Group trips in Indonesia

Bali is just the beginning: volcanoes, Komodo dragons and seventeen thousand islands.

Indonesia is a vast archipelago and Bali is its gateway: Ubud's rice terraces, sea temples, surf in Canggu. From there the group can spread to the Gili islands, Nusa Penida, Java with Borobudur and Mount Bromo, or sail to Komodo and Flores.

It is a destination where the group changes the trip: a private boat for Komodo or a driver for the Java loop are split, and pool villas in Bali cost less than two hotel rooms. Every island is a natural stop to join.

When to go

The dry season runs from April to October, with July and August the busiest months in Bali. From November to March it rains often but briefly: travel is still fine, with fewer people and lower prices.

Don't miss

๐Ÿ’ก The group tip

In Bali hire a car with driver for the day: for six people it costs as much as two scooters and nobody drives in the traffic. For Komodo look for a boat to share between eight or ten, sleeping on board.

Documents and entry

Passport required (valid for at least 6 months). Visa on arrival or online e-VOA (30 days, extendable once), with a fee. Electronic customs declaration (e-CD) on arrival.

Frequently asked questions

Are ten days enough for Indonesia?

Ten days cover Bali and the Nusa islands well; with two weeks you add Komodo or Java. The country is huge: better a few islands done properly, and on Worldmates you can join a single stop.

Do I need a visa for Indonesia?

Most European citizens get a paid tourist visa on arrival, also available online before departure (e-VOA). Check the current rules and duration with your foreign office.

Indonesia as a group: how much does it cost?

Daily life and lodging are cheap; the flight and inter-island transfers weigh more. Splitting villas, drivers and boats makes even Komodo and Flores affordable.
